"I've been a recreational rider and British Riding Club member for over 30 years. I've also been a full time safety professional for 20 years.
A few years ago I had a brief break from riding and on returning I was pleased to find that safety had moved up the
agenda. However, while riders are taking steps to offer themselves better protection,
we see equestrian businesses suffering. More and more riding schools are closing;
often concerned of having to comply with so much legislation, fearful of litigation and seeing costs rising. At a recent conference, one riding school proprietor put it quite simply "we just want someone to tell us what to do and how to do it". This site is aimed at helping everyone involved in equestrianism.
Telling you what you need to know, telling you simply and telling you now!
But don't think I have all the answers, I don't. It would
be foolish to think that I have. Yes, I can take you through the maze of health
& safety legislation, but this site is about helping you to help yourselves and through that to help others. That's why I need your help. In many areas you'll have far
more knowledge and experience than I have. Share your thoughts, your opinions,
your knowledge and your experience with Riding Safely and through that you can share it with others to help improve
equestrian safety. Feel free to comment about any item you find on this site. Please send any useful links for inclusion.
If you'd like to contribute, please do so.
Over the years, I've had quite a few equestrian accidents. On
reflection, most of them could have been avoided. Let's share information so
that in the future we can try to prevent the "avoidable" accidents."
